Belgium Diesel Prices to Reach New Record High of USD2.88 Per Liter

(MENAFN) Belgian motorists are bracing for a record-breaking spike at the pump, with diesel prices set to climb to an all-time high of €2.489 ($2.88) per liter on Wednesday, according to French-language media.

The adjustment represents a jarring single-day jump of more than 16 cents — one of the steepest one-time increases in recent memory — pushing diesel prices to within striking distance of the psychologically significant €2.50 barrier. Media cited the Economy Ministry as the source of the figures.

Gasoline prices will also tick upward, though far less dramatically. Standard 95-octane fuel (E10) is set to rise by 4.4 cents, landing at €1.945 per liter, while premium 98-octane gasoline (E5) will breach the €2 threshold for the first time in years, climbing 4.3 cents to €2.027 per liter.

The last time fuel costs reached comparable levels was mid-November 2022, according to the report — a period marked by acute global energy market turbulence.

The Economy Ministry attributed the sweeping price adjustments to persistent instability in global fuel markets, which continues to be aggravated by the ongoing war in the Middle East — a conflict that has kept energy commodity traders on edge and supply outlooks uncertain for months.
